a) As the article points out, playing Wii alone is not enough to achieve physical fitness. You'd need to exercise in other ways too, in order to really lose weight. But if you're going to be playing video games anyway, you might as well burn a few calories by using the "wii-mote" rather than a conventional controller. Rhythm games like DDR and Rock Band probably burn even more calories!

It makes me wonder how many more calories we could burn if all of our computer use were a little more physical. For instance, what if you used a device like the wii-mote to surf the web, instead of a mouse?

b) Yes, yes yes! I wanted to get one over the Christmas break but they are still very hard to find in stores in the U.S. I've played Wii games at friends' houses, and it's a blast.

c) No. At least, not in the hopes that it would make him or her lose weight. The Wii alone isn't enough to cause weight loss, and besides, my friends' weight is none of my business. If they want to lose weight, good for them, but I can't make them, and I shouldn't try.

d) People shouldn't rely on Wii for weight loss. If they're serious about losing weight, they should cut back on calories and exercise more using treadmills, bikes, elliptical machines, etc. But playing Wii couldn't hurt! :-D

Question 1) It was inevitable. When the Wii first came out, people were saying that it was good exercise and stuff. There is no reason for why this is becoming such a big deal because, even though you're watching the TV screen and playing a game, you are, at the same time, moving and that means there is no way to get around the fact that you are using more energy than if you are lying on a couch twiddling your thumbs. And this has its pros and its cons.
PROS:
-It's much more fun and appealing than lifting weights or running around the block
-It is convenient and close by for people who don't have much extra time that they have to use for weight loss and stuff
CONS:
-It is very addicting, so people will play for hours on end and when their eye doctors ask what in the world is going on, they have the excuse of a new "weight loss program"
-The weight loss doesn't counteract the TV screen - it will still take it's toll

Question 2) Yes, and no. Yes, because it looks really fun and interesting, and because of the exercise thing, but no, because it is really expensive and I still like basketball much better than video games, they take actual skill, not luck and computer knowledge.

Question 3) No way. I'm not a billionaire and that would probably rob me of quite a few friends. I would never give a Wii to a fat person. They would be so offended...I know I would!! And then they wouldn't be my friend anymore and that would be sad.

Question 4) Yeah, because they obviously can't be motivated to help themselves lose weight in any other way. There are so many weight loss programs and people will say, "Oh, I'm on such-and-such a diet and it's not working." But truthfully, they're not sticking to it. They cheat and stuff and figure that as long as they don't tell anyone, the diet will still have effect on their weight...the scale will always tell the truth, though.

a) I believe it's a great solution, for losing weight including exercise. (I went to one of my friends' house one day and played Wii. I eventually got a sore arm muscle from swinging so much!) I bet it did some good.) I think it's another perfect idea to decrease overweighted popularity. I am concerned about overweight people, that they can usually get more cancer than the average human!

b) Well, in a sense, yes! I would, but on the other hand, i don't know. Because that new video game seems quite expansive, plus, we don't even have a bigger screen or enough room to play Wii! If I eventually grow up and have a family of my own, it could be possible that I could arrange the options in my own house, but I guess playing video games is one of the big distractions I can get in this world instead of thinking of more important things. I guess people who become overweight in the first place, should better watch out for themselves how their diet is going. They should actually be CAREFUL and use their own special methods to lose weight. Because I think a video game can be no more than a distraction. Well, I understand, if we have got free time, we could play it, but I believe that to a certain point some of us may think that winning a pointless video game is more important than keeping our focus on God and where we're going in the end!

c) Well, I WOULD feel like that at some point, but the question is, WILL your friend take it? Have they got enough room of their own? Have they got a big enough TV screen? I don't really need to give a Wii video game to anybody necessarily now. My best Japanese friend ALREADY has a Wii video game and he seems to be playing it every day! He was quite overweight the last time I saw him years ago, but when we recently visited him, he had a Wii video game already set up and he looked more muscular than overweight! If I had another different friend who was overweight, instead of lending him a exercise-like video game, I'd try to encourage him a lot to go on a diet! I'd tell him I was concerned about his welfare. (:

d) It may look like a good idea, but I believe the side effects could be that it could give a lot of people a big distraction in life. A lot of them may not think that there is more to life than a pointless exercise video game (Besides, there are A LOT of other ways to lose weight! Jogging, eating more healthy food than calories, etc.)
Instead of buying a Wii game, I'd instead go to my friends house to play it (if he invited me). I'd have to work at the same time to keep my focus on God.

1) Well, I don't really think that Wii is a good way to loose weight because you're not interacting socially with anyone. Because you can loose weight through this game, kids might use it as an excuse to play it many hours each day. I do think that Wii is better than using controllers because you are using at least some part of your body, but I still think that if you want to loose weight you should do it by hiking or doing sports, not by playing a video game.

2) No, I do not want to own a Wii because I know that if our family had one, we would want to play with it a lot. Because we would have a time limit, we could get upset about the little time we have, and who knows what could happen. I only play video games less than 5 times per year on average, so owning one and using it almost every other day would be kind of weird to me. Also, if I play video (and even computer games), too long, my eyes start to hurt, so I don't think I would want to own one at all, even thought it does seem fun.

3) No, I would not do that because, like I said earlier, I don't think that it's a good way to loose weight! You're just standing (or sitting!) and moving your arms (most of the time)! I think that going jogging or playing basketball would be a much better way socially and physically to loose weight. I think that there is much better ways.

4) Well, if you like playing video games all the time, that's fine for me, but I don't like some of the games you can play, like going into people's houses and shooting them! If it's bowling and things where you can move you body more, that's fine, too, to use Wii, but people can't just loose weight by playing Wii. They have to eat more vegetable and fruits, and less fat food. Playing Wii isn't the main reason people can loose weight! I wouldn't be surprised if people continue to use Wii, though, because it's a new thing that kids love to play! I bet there will be another product down the road that people can use to loose weight!le4jesus
